The Arts Canvas is a Kenyan company affiliated to the artist Mũmbi Kaigwa. They create process-oriented art, with culture and history at the centre of their programmes. Delving into a career that spans more than four decades, this website is a treasure trove of historical information about the arts and culture space in East Africa as experienced by one of Kenya’s foremost theatre practitioners.

You will find information about what it felt like to adapt to changes from a colonial to a Kenyanised space. The site describes how these changes affected the craft and technique of theatre and film-making, helping to develop an original voice and shaping a body of work from the ground up.

If you’re interested in the arts; a student, historian, researcher, or a practitioner of stagecraft or film, we’re certain you’ll find the material in this website very useful. Don’t hesitate to send us an email with your comments and questions.
